OUR APPROACH

Building Healthy Puppies from the Very Beginning

Healthy puppies don’t happen by chance. They are the result of thoughtful breeding decisions, comprehensive health testing, excellent veterinary care, proper nutrition, and intentional early development. Each stage of our program plays a role in giving puppies the healthiest possible start in life.

THOUGHTFUL PLANNING

Every Great Litter Begins with Purpose

Every litter at Harman Corgis is planned with purpose. Before a breeding ever takes place, we carefully consider health, temperament, structure, pedigree, and how each pairing supports the future of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Our goal isn’t simply to produce puppies—it’s to produce healthy, confident companions that will thrive with their families for years to come.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT PARENTS

The Right Pairing Makes All the Difference

No breeding dog is selected based on a single quality. We look at the whole dog and consider how the strengths of one parent may complement the other. Each pairing is thoughtfully planned with the health, temperament, structure, and future of the puppies in mind.

Every dog in our breeding program also completes comprehensive health testing before being bred.

BUILDING A STRONG FOUNDATION

Health Testing Guides Every Decision

Comprehensive health testing helps us make informed breeding decisions. Each breeding dog undergoes DNA testing and appropriate health screenings to help reduce the risk of inherited disease while preserving the qualities that make Pembroke Welsh Corgis exceptional companions. Health testing isn’t about finding “perfect” dogs—it’s about making thoughtful decisions that support the long-term health of the breed.

Understanding the Tests

Every breeding dog in our program is tested for a number of inherited conditions before being bred. Click on any condition below to learn what it is, why it matters, and how responsible breeders use genetic testing when planning healthy litters.

Our health testing program includes both DNA testing for inherited conditions and health screenings to provide a more complete picture of each breeding dog’s health.

A HEALTHY BEGINNING

Caring for Mom and Puppies

A healthy litter begins with a healthy mother. Throughout pregnancy, we focus on proper nutrition, regular veterinary care, appropriate exercise, and a low-stress environment to support both mom and her developing puppies. Long before the first puppy is born, we’re preparing for a safe delivery and giving every litter the healthiest possible start.

THE FIRST WEEKS

Every Day Shapes the Future

Newborn puppies enter the world completely dependent on their mother—and on us. They are born not being able to regulate their body temperature, see, hear, or eliminate on their own, making this one of the most critical stages of their development. During these early days, every puppy is weighed twice daily, allowing us to closely monitor growth and quickly identify any concerns. We remain with our litters around the clock, closely monitoring each puppy, tracking weight gain, and providing the attentive care they need to grow stronger every day. Our goal is simple: to give every puppy the healthiest possible start.

DISCOVERING THE WORLD

Building Healthy Bodies and Confident Minds

As puppies grow, physical health and healthy development begin to go hand in hand. Age-appropriate enrichment, socialization, movement, new experiences, and positive interactions help puppies develop both physically and mentally.

Our Next Level Puppy Program follows puppies through these developmental stages and explains how we prepare them for life with their families.

READY FOR HOME

Preparing Puppies for Their Next Adventure

Before puppies leave for their new homes, they receive a thorough veterinary examination, age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming, a microchip, and complete health records. Families leave knowing what care their puppy has received and what comes next as they continue veterinary care at home.

A LIFETIME TOGETHER

Our Commitment Doesn't End on Go-Home Day

Bringing home your puppy is only the beginning. Genetics and early development provide an important foundation, but lifelong health is also shaped by proper nutrition, preventive veterinary care, exercise, training, and maintaining a healthy body weight.

We provide resources and continued support to help families care for their Corgis throughout their lives.
